In quarterfinal action earlier today in the 22nd New Jersey State Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship, Tom Gramigna of Tavistock Country Club secured his place in tomorrow’s final four action by defeating Gregg Angelillo of Montclair Golf Club, 1-up, at the 6659 yard, par-71 Somerset Hills Country Club in Bernardsville.

Gramigna, the 2002 and 2003 Mid-Amateur Champion, will aim tomorrow to become only the second golfer to win the Gigi Carnevale Trophy a total of three times, as he will face John Peterson of Deal in the first of two semi-final matches at 8:00 a.m. The second semi-final match will pit Bobby Erianne of Passaic County Golf Course, who defeated William Charpek of Navesink Country Club 2 & 1, against Jamie Slonis- also of Tavistock Country Club- who defeated fellow Tavistock member William McGuinness, 2 & 1. The Erianne/Slonis semi-final match will begin at 8:10 a.m.

Should Tavistock’s Gramigna outlast John Peterson of Deal in the morning’s first semi-final match, he will look to match Bruce Young’s current record for NJSGA Mid-Amateur Championships with three, captured in 1992, 1994, and 1995. Tomorrow’s Championship match will begin at approximately 12:30 p.m.
