Fifteen year old Morgan Hoffmann of Arcola Country Club today became the 84^th winner of the New Jersey State Golf Association/William Y. Dear Junior Championship at the par 72, 6550 yard Rockaway River Country Club in Denville. Hoffmann’s overpowering 8 & 7 Championship win came at the expense of Gene Yang of Glenwood Country Club, who last week captured the Metropolitan Golf Association’s Junior Championship. The win for Hoffmann followed his semi-final victory over Michael Corbo of Rockaway River, 4 & 3.

In the Boys division, Anthony Aloi, 15, of Cranbury defeated Tom Gliozzo of Due Process, 3 & 2, to capture the 35^th Boys Championship. Aloi’s decision over Gliozzo came on the heels of his 5 & 4 victory over David Brown of Architects in the morning’s semi-final match.

Both Champions will be entering their sophomore year in high school; Hoffmann, a resident of Wyckoff attends Ramapo High School, and Aloi of Plainsboro returns for his sophomore year at West Windsor-Plainsboro South High School. Incidentally, both participants in the Junior Championship match would have been eligible to play in the Boys division, had they not elected to ‘play up’ in the Junior Division. Both Champions were also qualifying round medalists this past Monday.

Next year’s Championship will be held at the Essex County Country Club in late July.
