Larry Hall of Packanack today became the 47th New Jersey State Golf Association Senior Champion, as he bested Robert McIntyre on the second playoff hole in shooting a two day total of 147 (5 over par). Hall came into today’s Championship round with a one shot lead after shooting a one-under par 70 yesterday at the par 71, 6513 yard Green Brook Country Club in North Caldwell. The 55 year old resident of Wayne followed up yesterday’s performance with a 77 to tie with McIntyre after 36 holes, who charged into Championship contention with his second round total of 74 (after 73 on Monday). When McIntyre bogeyed the second playoff hole, Hall’s par would be enough to gain the Charles H. Smith Championship Trophy. The Senior Championship was awarded to the golfer 55 years of age and older with the lowest 36 hole aggregate score.

In the Pre-Senior Division, Bert Kosup of the Ridge at Back Brook fired a two-day total 149, besting Larry Silk of Greate Bay who shot a two day total of 150. Silk had a two-shot lead going into today’s final round, but Kosup’s 73 (35-38) after yesterday’s 76 was enough to best Silk by one shot. Incidentally, Kosup and his son Michael are the reigning NJSGA Father and Son Champions, and will look to defend their title on August 22 at Twin Brooks in Watchung. Kosup will hold the William Y. Dear Championship trophy for the ensuing year; the Pre-Senior Championship was awarded to the golfer between the ages of 50 and 54 with the lowest 36 hole aggregate score.

In the newly created Super-Senior Division, Robert Housen of Manasquan River shot a two-day total of 152, in finishing today with a three-over par 74 (37-37). The Super-Senior award was given to the golfer with the lowest 36 hole aggregate score 65 years of age and older.

Looking ahead to next year, the 2006 Senior and Pre-Senior Championships will be contested at Arcola Country Club in early August.
