73^rd NJSGA Four Ball Championship

Rounds 1 & 2 – Trenton Country Club, West Trenton, NJ

Of the eight teams that will advance to tomorrow’s quarterfinal round of the 73^rd New Jersey State Golf Association Four Ball Championship at Trenton Country Club, one of these has a most deserving claim as favorite. Robert Whartenby and Michael Minter of the host club, who faced off against each other in the Trenton Country Club Championship on Sunday (with Minter walking away the winner, 1-up), bounced back from a slow start in their opening match this morning, defeating Edward Kay and John Lovett of Charleston Springs, 1-up. Whartenby and Minter were trailing by two holes with three to play, as they approached the sixteenth tee. Their day would turn around right there, as they won the 16^th, 17^th, and 18^th holes to capture the match, 1-up. They would win the first seven holes of their second round afternoon match en route to their 8 & 7 win over John McQuilken and John Brylczyk of Woodlake. The Trenton pair will also be joined by Trenton club-mates Mike Moonan and Mike Reap in tomorrow morning’s eight-team quarterfinal round action.

Those who win matches tomorrow will advance to Wednesday morning’s semi-final round, in search of the 73^rd awarding of the Ridgewood Country Club Championship Trophy after Wednesday afternoon’s Championship match.
