NJSGA championships date back to 1900

When the New Jersey State Golf Association was formed in 1900, its first order of business was setting up a tournament to determine a state champion. The flyer for the event, which was the inaugural NJSGA Amateur championship, read as follows:

“The First Annual Tournament for the golf championship of the State of New Jersey will be held on the Links at the Essex County Country Club at Orange, N.J., on September 27th, 29th and 29th. All entries will be confined to resident members of New Jersey clubs and must be made through club secretaries before 6 p.m., Monday, September 24th, 1900.”

Fast forward to today, and the NJSGA conducts 25 such events, for men and women, juniors and seniors. Feel free to peruse the archival listing of all of the championships the NJSGA has conducted since its founding in 1900.
