Gianchandani Wins Medal, Earns Trip To U.S. Girls Junior At Ridgewood .c.c

Ami Gianchandani of Short Hills, N.J., winner of the 2015 NJSGA Junior Girls Championship, was medalist at the qualifier for the U.S. Girls Junior Championship at Apawamis Club in Rye, N.Y., on Tuesday, June 27.

Ami Gianchandani shot 74, two strokes better than Yuen Yuet Selina Li of Hong Kong. Kelly Sim of Edgewater, N.J., winner of the State High School Tournament of Champions last month, shot 77 to qualify for the U.S. Girls Junior Championship which takes place at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J., on July 18-23.

Last summer, Gianchandani overcame a bogey on the final hole that cost her an outright victory, then rallied with a birdie in a one-hole playoff on the same hole to win the 61st NJSGA Junior Girls Championship at Bella Vista Country Club in Marlboro.

Gianchandani, who turned 16 in December, is a rising junior at Pingry School and placed second last spring at the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Girls Tournament of Champions which is sponsored by the NJSGA.

Yoona Kim of Oradell shot 73 to edge Dana Williams of Boca Raton, Fla., by one shot to earn medalist honors at the U.S. Girls Junior qualifier at Springfield, Va.
