Blumenfeld And Deo Share Player Of The Year

The NJSGA announced at the conclusion of the season that Jay Blumenfeld of Mountain Ridge Country Club and Michael Deo of High Bridge Hills Golf Club are co-winners of the 2009 Player of the Year award. The title goes to the amateur player (or players) who accumulate the most points for top finishes in a variety of tournaments during the course of the season. The NJSGA made the awards at the Celebration of Golf dinner at Crestmont Country Club on October 22.

Blumenfeld, 57, of Parsippany, also was Player of the Year in 2006. En route to his share of the 2009 title, he gained points by finishing as a quarterfinalist in the Richardson Invitational at the Seawane Club on Long Island, in eighth place at the NJSGA Amateur Championship, in a tie for second place at the MGA Senior Amateur Championship, in fourth place and low amateur at the NJSGA/NJPGA Senior Open Championship and for qualifying for match play at the USGA Senior Amateur Championship in Chicago.

Deo, 32, of Berkeley Heights, claimed his first NJSGA Player of the Year title after many successful years on the local and regional golf circuit. His career highlight came in June when he captured the NJSGA Amateur Championship at Fairmount Country Club after four previous runner-up finishes. He also gained points by tying as fourth low amateur at the NJSGA Open Championship at Rock Spring Club. Deo won the 2007 NJSGA Mid-Amateur, the 2007 Four Ball (with Gregg Angelillo), the 1999 Four Ball (with Richard Cansfield) and the 1994 NJSGA Junior.
