Canoe Brook C.C. Finalist For National Course Of Year Award

Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, N.J., is one of four golf courses in the United States selected as a finalist for the National Course of the Year by the National Golf Course Owner’s Association.

Canoe Brook, the Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Course in Florida, Poppy Hills Golf Course in California and the Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort in Indiana, were the four courses named as finalists because of their service and excellence.

The Pete Dye Course won the competition as National Course of the Year..

The National Golf Course of the Year Award honors a member demonstrating four criteria: exceptional quality of the course, exceptional quality of ownership and management, outstanding contribution to the community and significant contribution to the game. The Course of the Year Award winners come from the NGCOA’s core membership, which makes an outstanding contribution to the sport in their markets and are model operations to their peers.

The honor has been awarded every year since 2013. Last year, Forest Dunes of Roscommon, Mich., won the award.

Canoe Brook Country Club recently completed a three-year, award-winning renovation project in 2016. Canoe Brook frequently makes contributions to foundations and programs, including Fold of Honor and Bunkers for Baghdad, while also hosting an annual outing for local police departments.

The Pete Dye Course at French Lick is a major economic drive providing stability in the financially struggling Orange County.

The Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Club and Sports Complex promotes values and academic and social skills for at-risk children, doing so by using the golf course as a living classroom.

Poppy Hills Golf Course, which hosted the PGA Tour’s First Tee Open since completing its award-winning renovation in 2013, is a leader in water stewardship practices and youth-targeted philanthropic efforts.

All finalists were recognized during an awards ceremony at the 2017 Golf Business Conference in Orlando, Fla., Feb. 6-9. The Pete Dye Coiurse was named winner at the Celebration Dinner on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
