Angelillo & Shunk Win Inaugural Canoe Brook Scratch Invitational

The inaugural Canoe Brook Scratch Invitational was conducted in Summit on Thursday, August 20, with the team of Steve Shunk of Canoe Brook and Greg Angelillo of Baltusrol winning the event with a score of 69-72-141.

The event drew 16 two-man teams playing Pinehurst format on the South Course and Better Ball of Two on the North Course.

Runners-up at 73-69-142 were a pair of United Airlines pilots, Anthony Penizotto of Canoe Brook and Robert Posocco of Pennsylvania, a former Nike Tour player.

In third place was the team of Dan Feeney and John Brennan at 71-72-143, followed by John Morgan and J.T. Harper at 71-73-144.

Seton Hall men’s basketball coach Kevin Willard of Essex County played with Ed Shannon of Fairmont and tied for fifth place at 70-75-145. Also tied for fifth were Scott Rosenstock and Brett Diakon st 73-72-145 and former NJSGA Mid-Amateur champion Kevin McSorley and John Strickik of Forsgate at 73-72-145.

Three former Canoe Brook assistant professionals participated in the event in Andrew Young of Metuchen, Nate Degoede and Paul Hunter of Medinah.
