Alice Chen Featured In Sports Illustrated's Faces In Crowd

Alice Chen of Neshanic Valley, who led New Jersey to its first title in the 10th USGA State Team Championship on September 19, is featured this week in the October 7 issue of Sports Illustrated magazine.

Chen appears in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd” segment on the top of Page 23.

The write-up reads:

Alice Chen/ Princeton, N.J./ Golf

“Alice, a Montgomery High School senior, shot a record-tying six-under-67 round and tied for the lowest score (six-under 213) to lead New Jersey to its first UGA State Team Championship at NCR Country Club (Kettering, Ohio). Earlier this year she won the state high school championship and the NJSGA Women’s Amateur and Junior Girls’ titles.”

The write-up will also appear on the internet on Saturday evening at SI.com/faces

Chen was joined on the New Jersey State Team, sponsored by the NJSGA, by captain Tara Fleming of New Jersey National and Cindy Ha of Valley Brook. The team will be honored at the NJSGA/NJPGA Celebration of Golf on Thursday, October 24 at Trump National G.C. in Bedminster.

Chen, who has committed to play at Furman University next fall, enjoyed a brilliant summer of golf. She won the New Jersey high school individual championship and earned player of the year honors. Chen then won the New Jersey State Golf Association’s Women’s Amateur and Junior Girls’ Championships, and tacked on a victory at the American Junior Golf Association’s Lessing’s AJGA Classic, also conducted in the Garden State.

“I am so honored that Sports Illustrated picked me for Faces in the Crowd,” Chen stated.

“We never felt pressure. We knew we were tied with Florida going into the final round, but we never talked about it,” Chen said.

“We really bonded together as a team. I scrambled a lot today. Through the entire week, it was just about hitting greens and getting birdies and eagles if possible,” Chen continued. “I really do feel blessed about everything that’s happened to me this summer.”
