Play Suspended At 93rd Father & Son; To Resume Next Week

Play was suspended for the day at 4:20 p.m. due to inclement weather at the 93rd NJSGA Father and Son Championship at Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield.

Of the starting field, 38 teams were still on the course at the time of the suspension on Thursday, July 30.

Play will be resumed next Thursday, August 6, with a morning shotgun. Time of the shotgun start will be announced in an E-Mail including full information disseminated by the NJSGA on Friday, July 31. Instructions for withdrawal will also be announced within the E-Mail.

Peter and Matt Dannebaum of Morris County held a five-shot lead, firing a round of 3-under-par 68, after the morning session, carding six birdies.

“You need to be precise out here. The greens are small targets, so you have to position your ball and we did a good job of following that plan,” said Peter Dannebaum, the father, who won the NJSGA Tournament of Club Champions in 2003 and has won 11 club championships at Morris County.

“My son (Matt) hit four or five wedges stiff where I only had to tap in from two or three feet. The other day I shot four-under at Moris County and that was good for me. I have made some general swing changes that hve worked out well for me.”

Matt graduated this spring from the Pingry School where he was a member of the successful golf team that won state sectional, county and conference championships. He will attempt to walk on to the golf team at Washington and Lee University.

Matt is a three handicap who has won four consecutive junior club championships at Morris County.

“This is such a difficult format,” said Peer, who graduated Mendham High School and was an honorable mention All-America golfer at Temple University. “There wasn’t much tension because we’ve done this before. We were able to bring it home. This would be a great way to send my son off to college.”
