N.J. First Tee Student Selected For Leadership Academy

Zora Moore from The First Tee of Raritan Valley has been selected to attend The First Tee Life Skills and Leadership Academy in San Diego, Calif. July 24-30. Moore will join more than 90 participants of The First Tee, ages 13-17, to participate in this national event.

The First Tee of Raritan Valley was one of eight charities in the State of New Jersey to receive a grant from the NJSGA Youth Foundation in 2012.

The Academy, staged by The First Tee home office and hosted by The First Tee of San Diego, Sycuan Golf Resort and San Diego State University, provides participants valuable character education and leadership instruction during the week-long event. Participants will have the opportunity to develop and hone skills to become leaders in their chapters, schools and communities while experiencing championship golf, career exploration and dorm living.

During the week, Zora will learn from and interact with the top coaches in The First Tee network and meet a variety of young people from around the world.

Moore, 18, is a junior at Delaware Valley Regional High School in Frenchtown, NJ. Active at her chapter for fiveyears, she participates in First Tee junior tournaments and coaches younger participants at the chapter. She also volunteers in the community, plays the violin, and is a member of Literary and Aviation Clubs at her school.

“We are very excited to have Zora selected and representing our chapter on the national level. She is a great student and golfer but an even greater person.” commented Mark McCabe, Program Director for The First Tee of Raritan Valley.

At The First Tee life and golf skills are seamlessly integrated into each experience. The First Tee Life Skills and Leadership Academy is focused on recognizing and rewarding exceptional teen participants of The First Tee for their accomplishments while enhancing skills that will help on and off the golf course.
