Arcola Successfully Defends Hoffman Cup Championship

Captain Brian Celiberti and newcomer Xavier Dailly combined for a three-under par 69 as Arcola successfully defended its Hoffman Cup championship in the finals on Saturday, May 12, at Plainfield Country Club in Edison.

Arcola’s team, which also included Trevor Randolph, Ryan Chin, Mike O’Connell, Brendan Jonlan, Dan Macdonald and head professional Grant Sturgeon, outlasted runner-up and three-time champion Baltusrol by three shots. Baltusrol was paced by a 67 from Roger Hoit and head pro Ryan Fountaine.

The duos of Mike Stamberger and Chris Farren and Tom Hassel and Chris Dymek of Manasquan River each shot 70 as part of a team total of 291, good for third place.

Jack Skirkanich and Brett Flynn teamed for an impressive 68 to lead Rumson to a fourth-place 294 total.

The presence of daughters Lisa and Loren helped honor the memory of legendary sportswriter and namesake, Red Hoffman, who was a member of Plainfield.

Hoffman, golf columnist for the Newark News and Newark Star-Ledger, was an inaugural inductee of the NJSGA Hall of Fame on May 1.
