Ryan Mccormick's 69 Puts Him T-13 After 3 Rounds In Final Stage Of Asian Tour Q-school

Ryan McCormick of Middletown, N.J., winner of the 2012 NJSGA Amateur, is tied for 13th place after three rounds of the four-round final stage of the Asian Tour's Section B Qualifying School and in position to earn an Asian Tour card for the 2017 season.

McCormick shot 69 on Friday after his rounds of 67-66 on Wednesday and Thursday in the Final Stage of Asian Tour Qualifying School at Suvarnabhumi Golf & Country Club in Bangkok. The event concludes on Saturday, Jan. 14,.

The top-35 and ties after four rounds will earn their Asian Tour cards for 2017. At 14-under par, McCormick is six strokes behind leader Junya Kameshiro of Japan (67-62-67).

Another golfer with local ties, New Yorker Mike Miller, a two-time Met Player of the Year, shot 67-69-72 and is tied for 58th place.

Last week McCormick and Miller were among the top 26 finishers (and ties) who earned advancing positions from Windsor Park Golf Club in Bangkok.

LEADERBOARD

During last week's event, McCormick—having posted scores of 70-69-66 over the first three rounds—entered the final round tied for third and just two shots off the leader. McCormick continued his stellar play in the final round, tallying a 5-under 67 for his second straight bogey free round. McCormick tallied just two bogeys for the week at Windsor Park, finishing tied for second at 16-under 272.

McCormick, whose father is long-time professional Mark McCormick of Suburban, himself a State Open champion in 2008, won the Met Amateur championship in 2012 and was third in the NJSGA Amateur in 2013. Ryan had a very successful career at St. John’s University.He turned pro in 2014 and has played on the Canadian Tour and several mini-tours.

Miller most likely needed a sub-par score as he began the final round tied for 32nd. Miller more than delivered on the call, scorching the course with a bogey-free round of 10-under 62. The score—a new course record—vaulted Miller up the leaderboard into a tie for fifth at 14-under 274 at day's end. Miller carded matching 31s on his two nines, highlighted by an eagle on the par-five fourth and three consecutive birdies on Nos. 16-18.
