Walter Janovic Wins N.J. Seniors Golf Association Championship

It did not take long for Walter Janovic of Upper Montclair to make his mark on the New Jersey Seniors Golf Association.

In his first year with the NJSGA, Janovic won two events, including the two-day NJSGA Championship at Montclair Golf Club by shooting rounds of 73-76-149 to edge Rod Kerr of Manasquan River who also shot a 149 but lost in a match of cards in the field of 188 players.

Don Crowley. of Upper Montclair won Low Net with a score of 135. Stephen Allen of Echo Lake was the Low Net runner-up with a 136.

Janovic also won the Seniors event at Essex County Country Club when he shot 74 to defeat Bill Brightly of Hackensack by a stroke.

“The Senior Championship was a nice experience. It is a quality golf course. We played quality courses one after another. Like the Senior Hoffman Cup, it was nice to meet guys you would never get a chance to meet and to develop new friendships,” said Janovic, 57, who lives in Montvale and works in the construction industry.

Janovic said he had a busy summer in building new homes that kept him away from the golf course..

“But playing in the New Jersey Seniors got me focused into playing competitive golf. It sharpened my game. I’m privileged and happy to be a member of the New Jersey Seniors Golf Association.

Janovic has been a member at Upper Montclair since 1998 and has won club championships in 2013, 2011 and 2010. In 2015, he captained Upper Montclair’s eight-man team that won the inaugural NJSGA Senior Interclub Championship.

He grew up playing the game at River Vale County Club in Bergen County.
