State Open Back On Track

MORRISTOWN, N.J. After multiple set-backs due to stormy weather this week, the 90th NJSGA Open Championship has finally reached the third and final round today at Spring Brook Country Club. With Brian Gaffney of Rumson Country Club and Frank Esposito of Brooklake Country Club jockeying for position during the first two rounds, Esposito (67-70 = 137) takes a one stroke lead over Gaffney (66-72 = 138) into the final round.

A host of strong players lurks behind them and could contend in the final round, including past champions Chris Dachisen (70-72 = 142) and Mark McCormick (69-73 = 142). Bobby Gage of Forsgate sits alone in third place after rounds of 67-72 = 139. Amateurs Matt Dubrowski of White Beeches, Domenic Gatto of Eagle Oaks, Tom Gramigna of Tavistock and Professionals Brent Studer of Manasquan River and Tom Sipula of Edgewood are all part of the log-jam in fourth place at 142. Complete standings as well as the action today can be viewed by clicking on the Live Scoring icon above.

With the golf course softened by rain over the last two days, conditions today are ripe for scoring. A player who fires at the pins could be rewarded with many birdies and a low-scoring round to capture the State Open title.
