Tournament Of Club Champions Wraps Up Season

FARMINGDALE, N.J. (October 19, 2010). The NJSGA’s season-ending event, the Tournament of Club Champions, crowned a repeat winner on the men’s side and a youthful winner on the women’s side. Played at Eagle Oaks Golf & Country Club on October 14th, the field is comprised of club champs from around the state who gather to determine the best of the best. For the second year in a row, Tom Gramigna of Tavistock Country Club won the men’s division. With five birdies and two bogies on his score card, Gramigna’s three-under par 68 was good for a two stroke victory over Jonathan Goodman of Hollywood Golf Club. Gramigna won the 2009 Tournament of Club Champions at Upper Montclair Country Club.

For Gramigna, the victory nearly catapulted him into a second place finish in the Player of the Year standings. Brian Komline just held on to his second place ranking by a few points, and David Pierce was the Player of the Year winner for the first time in his playing career.

On the women’s side, 15 year-old Taylor Totland of Trump National Golf Club – Colts Neck shot 73 for a three-stroke victory over Liz Hickey of Spring Lake Golf Club. Totland becomes the youngest winner in the history of the event. This is her first NJSGA title after finishing tied for third at the NJSGA Junior Girls’ Championship this past July at Fairmount Country Club. She is a sophomore at Red Bank Catholic High School and already has a number of high school tournament victories under her belt.
