Caddie Scholar Donovan Cahill Of Baltusrol To Participate In 2nd College Football Bowl Game For Tcu

Donovan Cahill, a second-year recipient of a New Jersey State Golf Association Caddie Scholarship at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, will be taking part in his second bowl game in as many years as a member of TCU’s football program.

Cahill, a graduate of Summit High School and a caddie a Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, is the back-up long snapper for No. 13 TCU, which faces No. 15 Stanford University on Dec. 28 in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio.

A year ago, Cahill was in uniform when TCU lost to Georgia in the Liberty Bowl in Memphis.

“It’s exciting. I’m enjoying the traveling. I haven’t been on the field yet, but I have to always be ready because you never know when you may be called upon,” said Cahill, who receives a $3,500 NJSGA college tuition grant each year. He is majoring in strategic communications with an eye on a job in advertising or marketing.

It’s been a fine season for TCU (10-3), which started the season 7-0 and was ranked as high as No. 4 in the nation. The Horned Frogs reached the Big 12 championship game where they lost to Oklahoma, one of four teams that will be heading to the College Football Playoffs.

Season highlights include victories over Oklahoma State, SMU, Texas, Baylor, West Virginia, Kansas State and Arkansas.

“Coming to Texas has been great and playing football here has helped me. I’m the only kid from New Jersey on the team, so it’s been a little different, but my teammates love the fact that I’m from the East Coast.”

At Summit High School, Cahill was a two-year starter at center and long snapper and was rated 4.5 of 5.0 stars as a long snapper by Kohl's national rankings. He also lettered in lacrosse at Summit.

Cahill has a twin brother, Garrett, who is attending Michigan State. Their younger brother, Kevin, was the center and long snapper this year at Summit and hopes to play in college next year.

“I am very proud to represent the NJSGA Caddie Scholarship Foundation as a student, caddie and athlete. The generous financial support is a huge help in allowing me to make my goals and dreams a reality. The Caddie Scholarship is a constant reminder where hard work has gotten me and where it can lead,” Donovan stated.
