Paluck, Lamb, Probert Cited By Wmga; Depiro Named President

New Jersey’s Dot Paluck of Baltusrol and Somerset Hills, and Brigid Shanley Lamb and Ann Probert, both of Somerset Hills, were recognized with honorary memberships by the Women’s Metropolitan Golf Association at its annual meeting on Thursday, October 30, at Cold Spring Country Club in Long Island.

Also, Valerie DePiro of Montclair, former WMGA treasurer, was installed as WMGA president.

Paluck, Lamb and Probert were presented with framed distinctive plaques by the WMGA, where each has served as president.

Paluck is in her 16thyear of service with the USGA where she is completing a two-year term as head of the Women’s Committee. She has also been chair of the U.S. Women’s State Team Championship and Regional Affairs Committee.

She began with the WMGA in 1979 on the Board of Directors and was WMGA president in 1997-98 and again in 2005. She also serves as New Jersey course rating district chair. She is also a former president of the Garden State Women’s Golf Association (2002-03). She has also been club champion at both Baltusrol and Somerset Hills. She is on the Bernardsville Planning Board and is Commissioner of Golf for the Somerset County Park Commission.

Lamb served four years on the USGA Executive Committee and was previously on the USGA Girls Junior and Women’s committees. She also chaired USGA Course Rating and Handicap and Regional Affairs and Associations committees. She has officiated at The Masters and continues to serve as a rules official at the U.S. Women’s Open.

Lamb served as WMGA president during its centennial year of 1999 and was recipient of the prestigious Judy Bell Award in 2006. She has competed in the U.S. Girls Junior and U.S. Women’s Amateur championships. She has been club champion at both Somerset Hills and Maidstone. Her father, Bernard Shanley, was a roommate and teammate of Lou Gehrig at Columbia University and was deputy White House Chief of Staff under President Dwight Eisenhower.

Probert has been an outstanding golfer since winning the WMGA Junior Open and New Jersey Junior. She has been WMGA Stroke-Play champion four times, won the Women’s New Jersey championship and has 14 Garden State Women’s championships among many senior championships.

Probert has won 25 club championships at Somerset Hills and 13 more at Mountain Lake. She has played in 10 Senior Women’s International events and represented the WMGA 11 times in the Griscom Cup matches. She enjoyed her 13thhole-in-one in September. She has served on the USGA Girls Junior and Women’s Committee, each for 10 years. She was WMGA president in 1991-92 and helped found the WMGA Foundation and served as its president in 2004-06. She received the Judy Bell Award in 2002.
