In the Fall of 2012 the New Jersey State Golf Association honored the late Honey Gantner by naming a volunteer of the year award in her name. The “Honey Gantner Award,” recognizes the top NJSGA volunteer each year.
Gantner began her volunteer work with the NJSGA in 1994. NJSGA Tournament Director, Mike McAneny, called Honey the consummate volunteer. “Honey was the first to arrive and the last to leave. She had an incredible amount of energy, but more than that, she was the nicest, most generous person you would ever run into. Countless people around New Jersey knew Honey from her volunteer work. She knew how to interact with players and everyone she met on the golf course.”
The inaugural Honey Gantner award was presented to none other than Honey herself. “I’m overwhelmed and very grateful, I can’t believe I’m receiving an award for something I so thoroughly enjoyed. I’m so thrilled that each year a volunteer will be honored.”
