It was a day filled with birdies at the Livingston private golf club. Three duos in Conor Casey and Stephen Walsh, Peter Lee and Thomas Lee, and Kevin Silvestri and Matthew Kronisch shared medalist honors carding 6-under par 65s.

The 2021 Four-Ball finalists of Lee and Lee got off to a solid start as Thomas Lee chipped it in for birdie on No. 1. They went on to have a blemish free round.

“When one person didn't have a great hole, the other person picked them up and that was consistent throughout the round,” Thomas Lee reflected.

For the Casey and Walsh tandem, they weathered some storms early on, but finished on a strong note, going five-under in their last six holes. The duo, who met at the South of Ireland Amateur in 2012 will head to Hamilton Farm as first time partners in the championship.

“We wanted to start playing golf together again and this was a good start,” the pair chuckled.

Silvestri and Kronisch had a bogey-free round, highlighted by six birdies. The pair, who started on No. 10 took advantage of some late birdie opportunities.

“We knew we had some birdie chances coming in,” said Kronisch. “Getting through that stretch there when it got a little cold, the ball wasn't flying as much, but we knew we had some birdies chances, so after that I thought we were in a good spot.”

Matthew Carlson of Ramsey Golf & Country Club carded a hole-in-one on the 136-yard 16th using a pitching wedge. Carlson and his partner, Drake Ferriter also advanced to the major championship thanks to a 5-under par back nine.

Pairings and starting times for the remaining two qualifiers are posted.
