119th Amateur Championship Postponed to August; Other changes announced

Due to ongoing concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the New Jersey State Golf Association has postponed the 119th Amateur Championship at Arcola Country Club until August 3-5 (Monday-Wednesday). The NJSGA is greatly appreciative of the membership and staff of Arcola Country Club for accommodating this change, and we are excited for a wonderful championship at one of our state’s top venues.

The NJSGA has taken this measure for many reasons, and after very careful thought. First, postponing the championship provides additional time in the event the health climate does not improve to an acceptable level for the safe playing of tournament golf. In addition, moving the Amateur Championship to August 3-5 better enables the NJSGA to maintain the qualifying structure, and allows us to be considerate of the schedules and concerns of our host clubs that have committed to host our qualifiers. Three of the four June qualifiers are rescheduled, as follows:

  • New Jersey National Golf Club – Changed to Tuesday, July 7
  • Lake Mohawk Golf Club – Changed to Thursday, July 9
  • Quail Brook Golf Course – Changed to Saturday, July 11 (limited to 72 players)
  • Burlington Country Club – No change – remains scheduled for Thursday, June 18

Those who have entered the NJSGA Amateur Championship will be contacted separately with further instructions and details.

Other schedule changes:

  • The Senior Open Championship, originally scheduled for Tuesday-Wednesday, May 26-27 at Springdale Golf Club, will be rescheduled. Further information will be announced shortly.
  • The Junior Championship, originally scheduled for Monday-Wednesday, August 3-5 at Fairmount Country Club, will be rescheduled. Further information will be announced shortly.
  • The Public Links Qualifier, originally scheduled for Wednesday, August 5, at River Vale Country Club, will be rescheduled. Further information will be announced shortly.

Other notes:

  • Presently, the NJSGA intends to conduct the Mid-Amateur Championship, as scheduled, at North Jersey Country Club on June 2-4. This is subject to change, pending future health and safety directives from the government. The two qualifying rounds, scheduled for May 11 (Royce Brook) and May 14 (The Knoll) have been cancelled. Information regarding the qualifying structure and schedule will be announced shortly.
  • Other June Championships (Mixed Pinehurst on June 9 at Roxiticus and the Women’s Four-Ball on June 16 at Spring Brook) remain scheduled – however, these are subject to change.

The NJSGA will provide future updates as they are decided.
