Bill King Captures Njsga/pga Senior Open Championship

WATCHUNG, N.J. Under weather-challenged conditions, Bill King of Spring Lake G.C. won the New Jersey Senior Open Championship, an event conducted jointly by the NJSGA and the NJ Section of the PGA and sponsored by Lincoln-Mercury. In the photo to the left, King is presented with the trophy by Mary Beth Childs of Lincoln-Mercury. The tournament was played at the par-72, 6,715 yard Twin Brooks Country Club course in Watchung. King’s two-round total of 141 (73-68) earned him a five stroke victory over the trio of Mike Burke, Jr. (Montammy), Ed Whitman (Knickerbocker) and Jerry Moore (Neshanic Valley). His closing 68 was the only sub-70 round from the field and clearly clinched the victory for him.

Jay Blumenfeld of Mountain Ridge took low amateur honors, and a tie for fifth place overall, with his total of 147 (72-75). For full field results, go to the Championships section, 2007 Results.
