“It was a good day. You never know what to expect with 36 holes, but I started the day well in round one and was able to continue it and play more aggressive in round two,” stated Woods, the half-niece of PGA Tour superstar Tiger Woods. The 30-year-old Phoeniz, Arizona resident previously competed in the 2012, ’14, ’17, and ’18 U.S. Women’s Open Championships.

The second qualifying position was earned by Holmdel’s Megha Ganne, one of the top amateurs in the state, whose par on the second playoff hole (No. 11) was enough to advance.

Ganne reflected on her effort. “Today was such a roller coaster and such a long day that I was just trying to stay in it. Since there were so many holes to be played, I just wanted to keep my adrenaline up.” Ganne and Leigha Devine of Windsor, Colorado (and a student a Rutgers University) shared low amateur honors, tied at three-over-par 147. Devine outlasted Savannah Vilaubi, a professional from Downey, California, (who also finished at 147) in a playoff for the first alternate position. Vilaubi is the second alternate.

The 76th U.S. Women’s Open Championship will be contested at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, California, June 3-6.
