Looking Ahead at the 2022 NJSGA Major Championship Season

Hole No. 5 at The Ridge at Back Brook

KENILWORTH, N.J. – The New Year is approaching, which means the 2022 New Jersey State Golf Association tournament season is just a few short months away.

While the leaves have fallen and the temperatures have dropped in the Garden State, the NJSGA is excited to announce its 2022 Major Championship slate. Over the next several months, the NJSGA will preview each of the five major championships in depth individually.

"The NJSGA is very fortunate to have many of the best golf courses in the country right in our own backyard," explained Michael McFadden, NJSGA President. "The tradition of hosting our majors at exceptional venues continues in 2022 with the Four-Ball at Deal Golf & Country Club, Mid-Amateur at Somerset Hills Country Club, the Amateur presented by Provident Bank at Rockaway River Country Club, the Open at The Ridge at Back Brook, and the Women's Amateur and Mid-Amateur at Glen Ridge Country Cub."

The 101st New Jersey Open will be played at the Ridge at Back Brook from July 25-27. For the first time, The Ridge at Back Brook will play host an NJSGA major championship. Designed by Tom Fazio, The Ridge was voted Best Private Course in New Jersey for 2016. Three-time Open Champion Tyler Hall will look to defend his title at the Ringoes private club.

“The NJSGA is thrilled to have a great lineup of championship venues for the 2022 season, highlighted by the Open Championship headed to The Ridge at Back Brook for the first time,” said Brad Bardon, Director of Championships. “Each course will provide fun and challenge for all participants. We can’t thank the clubs and their memberships enough for their support of our events given the busyness of golf calendars.”

The 121st New Jersey Amateur presented by Provident Bank will be contested at Rockaway River Country Club, home of the 2007 Amateur as well as the 2015 New Jersey Open. The private club located in Denville, which is well-known for the river that flows through the course will host the event July 11-13. Michael Brown, who won three amateur titles in three different states over a one-year period is the defending champion.

On the women’s side, Glen Ridge Country Club will welcome the best female golfers in the Garden State for the 97th New Jersey Women’s Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championship from August 1-4. Designed by Willie Park Jr., the golf course features plenty of tree-lined fairways with intriguing green complexes. Ami Gianchandani, a student-athlete at Yale University is the defending champion.

Deal Golf & Country Club will host the first NJSGA major of the 2022 season as the 90th Four-Ball Championship will take place from May 16-18. The Donald Ross course is known for its narrow fairways and complex greens just one mile away from the beautiful Jersey Shore.

From June 8-10, Somerset Hills Country Club will host the 39th edition of the Mid-Amateur Championship. Designed by A.W. Tillinghast, Somerset Hills was recently ranked the No. 43 best course in the World. 2021 Mid-Am Champion, Eric LeFante will seek to defend the title at his home course.
