The New Jersey State Golf Association’s third season of Member Golf Days began with a sold-put showing on Monday, June 3, at an outstanding venue, Trump National-Philadelphia in Pine Hill, N.J.

Some 104 golfers from all corners of the state were on hand to enjoy the day, the first of six Member Golf Days. The others are Raritan Valley, June 24; Metedeconk National, August 5; Rockaway River, August 21; Upper Montclair, October 7; Hidden Creek, October 14.

Metedeconk National, like Trump Philadelphia, is already sold out and the others are filling up fast. MGDs are highly popular since for a reasonable fee of $125 for any of the outings, NJSGA members and friends get to play a private golf course, enjoy lunch, greens fees, carts, and post-golf repast and awards.

“Coming to a great course like Trump National-Philadelphia is a great way to start the Member Golf Day season,” said Rich Kennedy, NJSGA Director of Handicapping and Member Services.

“This is our third year of MGDs and is proving to be our best year. A day like today is an event in which there is something for everyone. Golfers can be competitive, or simply enjoy a nice day at a nice place, at a well-run first-rate golf course.

“We’ve noticed a lot of NJSGA members are inviting friends or clients to join them for the wonderful experience of MGDs,” Kennedy added.

Many of the golfers are repeaters to the Member Golf Day experience, including Lenny Cinquerano of Pinch Brook, who was competing in his fourth MGD in three years.

“You get to play some really nice golf courses for a value price. And you get to play with the NJSGA, which is top-notch. I enjoy the competition you might not get at your home course,” Cinquerano stated.

Joe DiBenedetto, a dentist from Ocean Township, said he will also play in the Member Golf Day at Hidden Creek.

“I competed in qualifiers for the State Amateur and Mid-Amateur over the past two years, and found out about Member Golf Days from the website (NJSGA.org), which is outstanding,” he said.

Bill and Billy Ludwig of Packanack have participated in three NJSGA Father and Son championships, finishing as high as third place.

“Member Golf Days is another way for us to compete and enjoy a great course thanks to the NJSGA,” Bill Ludwig Sr., said.

The competition at Trump National-Philly was 18 holes of stroke play with four-ball net scoring (Better ball of partners).
