New Golf Lab Unveiled At Seton Hall University

Continuing its facility transformation at a rapid pace, Seton Hall University has unveiled a new indoor golf lab situated on the fourth floor of the Richie Regan Athletic Center on campus in South Orange, N.J.. Part of the Pride & Excellence Campaign, the golf lab was built through the generosity of the Torcivia Family Foundation. In addition, the lab’s hitting stalls and portable simulator were generously donated by James ’68/MBA ’78 and Kathleen Leber.

“The golf lab is the latest facility upgrade we are proud to deliver to our student-athletes, who will greatly benefit from being able to practice indoors year around, especially in inclement weather,” Seton Hall Vice President and Director of Athletics & Recreation Pat Lyons said. “I’d like to thank the Torcivia Family Foundation for providing the lead gift that made this project possible, and I’d like to thank the Leber family for helping us outfit the room to give our men’s and women’s golfers the best equipment possible.

“Our men’s and women’s golf programs have developed into annual contenders for the BIG EAST Championship, and the addition of a golf lab will help our student-athletes compete for those titles and help bring future Pirates golfers here to compete for championships for years to come.”

Joseph Torcivia is a member of the NJSGA Advisory Committee of Past Board members. Seton Hall senior golfer Ryan Snouffer of Panther Valley was fifth in the State Open and 11th in the State Amateur this past summer.

The 2,760-square-foot golf lab features the hitting stalls donated by the Leber Family that includes a state-of-the-art Trackman portable simulator with projection screen. The lab simulates the full golf experience with multiple chipping areas, including fringe/chipping areas with different rough lengths, uphill chipping area, a putting lab and a simulated sand trap. Seton Hall Athletics and Golf branding will be installed in the coming weeks.

“The transformation of Seton Hall’s athletic facilities has been swift and impactful, and it is an honor and a pleasure for our family to have played a role in helping enhance the student-athlete experience with this outstanding golf lab,” Joe Torcivia said. “The two Pirates golf programs will greatly benefit from being able to practice on campus, and the coaches now have another tool to help recruit the best and the brightest to the University.”

The golf lab is the latest in a long line of facility improvements Seton Hall Athletics has made in Lyons’ tenure. In 2015 alone, the department has unveiled new locker rooms, a new 7,500-square-foot weight room and a new film room while also partnering with Essex County to renovate Mike Sheppard, Sr. Softball Field and four tennis courts. Previous facility improvements completed in the past two years also include the Charles W. Doehler Academic Center, the Center for Sports Medicine and the Fitness Center.
