The 32-year-old edged Noelle Maertz, who had a solid second round, notching a 5-over par 75. Heading into the final hole, Maertz led the Mid-Am contingent by one stroke, but Perrotta bested Maertz on No. 18, recording a par, while Maertz turned in a double bogey.

“I hit the ball well, but I just didn’t score today,” said Perrotta. “I think the greens were breaking a bit more today because they dried out.”

In the 97th New Jersey Women’s Amateur Championship, Katie Lu earned medalist honors after a standout performance on Tuesday afternoon. The incoming sophomore at Michigan State University shot a 4-under par 67 on the 5,833-yard par 71.

“My irons were just a lot better,” reflected Lu. “I started off kind of hot on No. 2, and that’s been a tough hole for this whole field, so a birdie set some momentum.”

Lu’s round was highlighted by birdies on four of her first six holes.

“I was sinking in the putts I needed to today,” Lu commented. “I don’t know how many putts I had today, but a lot of one putts, so that definitely helped. Less bogeys always help too, and that was the goal today, to try not to make any mistakes and just make all the putts.”

The match play bracket is now set after Lu cruised past the field by seven strokes in the stroke play portion of the championship.

“Just taking it one hole at a time because anything can happen in match play, but I’m definitely feeling good going into it (match play) because of today,” said Lu.

Lu will go up against Ava Lozito of Fairfield in the Round of 16. Lozito locked in the final spot in the match play bracket after winning a two-for-one playoff against Caroline Fixter.

Mid-Amateurs Perrotta and Maertz also earned berths into the, competing in both championships.

Round of 16 matches will begin on Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. Following the conclusion of the morning matches, quarterfinal action will get underway.
