Lake Mohawk’s very own, Pitts, used his course knowledge, especially around the greens, on his way to the top of the leaderboard.

“The greens here are certainly ones that it helps to know. It’s not a long course, but it’s definitely a second-ball course for sure.,” said Pitts.

Pitts’s sole blemish on the day came on the 13th hole, where he picked up double bogey before quickly earning a stroke back on the ensuing hole with a birdie.

“That hole always gives me a bunch of trouble. It’s a tough tee shot for sure, but the birdie on the next hole helped quite a bit,” said Pitts. “I was due for a double, there’s always one per round.”

Qualifiers from Tuesday’s round will advance to compete in the Mid-Amateur Championship which will be held at Deal Golf & Country Club from June 6-8.
