South Jersey Cup returns to Atlantic City Country Club on Oct. 6

August 30, 2020 - The NJSGA’s South Jersey Cup returns to the famous Atlantic City Country Club in Northfield, one of the state’s finest and most historic and picturesque venues, on Tuesday, October 6.

NJSGA members can take part in this exciting event for a cost of only $150, which includes green fee, cart, lunch and awards. Tee times will range from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and a barbeque lunch is available at the turn. Trophies and golf shop credit will also be awarded to top finishers at the conclusion of the event.

Deadline for registration is Wednesday, September 23. Click here for details and to enter.

The event will include the top male and female amateurs of all ages from throughout New Jersey – all in support of a worthy cause. Proceeds will fund the Gail Reilly Scholarship Program which awards two, $500 scholarships to one male and one female golfer that is attending college. Reilly was a former president of the defunct South Jersey Golf Association, which conducted tournaments in southern New Jersey from 1946-2018.

“The NJSGA is pleased to conduct this event during such a stressful time and provide New Jersey golfers an opportunity to enjoy a day of golf in a wonderful setting,” said Rich Kennedy, NJSGA Director of Handicapping and Membership Services.

“We feel the South Jersey Cup will become an event that golfers can look forward to each year. There are so many attractive aspects to it, including the NJSGA’s recognition of the long and successful history of the South Jersey Golf Association, plus the rich tradition of Atlantic City Country Club,” Kennedy said.

The NJSGA, as it does at every event it administers, will apply strict guidelines regarding social distancing and other procedures to ensure players can relax and safely enjoy their participation.

Last year’s field of around 100 golfers, including men’s amateur, mid-amateur (age 25+) and senior golfers and females, came from all corners of the state, with many opting for an overnight stay to take advantage of the various amenities in the area.

“We would like more women to take part and expand that field. We would also like an equal or better turnout from top seniors, mid-amateurs and amateurs,” Kennedy said.

“We had a strong field last year, highlighted by champion in Mike Winter, who recently won the NJSGA Public Links Championship. He has emerged as a contender in many of our events.”

The format for the South Jersey Cup is individual stroke play with Gross scoring only for men. There will be both women's Net and Gross competitions. Players entered in the senior division (both men and women) will compete in a separate flight from a shorter yardage.

All competitors must have an active GHIN handicap through an NJSGA member club or golf course.

In the men’s and women’s Senior Divisions the lower golfer Handicap Index will receive priority into the event should entries exceed capacity.
