EATONTOWN, N.J. – The second qualifier for the 88th Public Links Championship played through the heat wave at Suneagles Golf Club on Tuesday as Darlington Golf Course’s William Sovak medaled, shooting an even par 72.
Sovak came out of the first group of the day to claim the sole medalist position. With four birdies and four bogeys on his scorecard, Sovak's game was very up and down throughout his round.
“I got a series of three birdies in a row to finish out the front nine, so I birdied 7, 8, 9. That got me back to even par after playing the par fives badly."
Sovak and 11 others will be moving on to Hominy Hill Golf Course on August 17 for the 88th Public Links Championship.
“I played Hominy Hill at the Public Links for the MGA probably 30 years ago.” Sovak said, “It'll be fun to go back and play it again.”
The third and final qualifier for the 88th Public Links Championship will take place August 11th at Tamarack Golf Course.
