Wednesday Roundup - April 28, 2021

The NJSGA’s “Wednesday Roundup” will run weekly through the 2021 golf season. This weekly news summary will feature local stories and news from throughout #thestateofgolf. ● Rider senior Austin Devereux became the Broncs’ first ever individual Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) champion. Devereux, a Brielle resident and reigning NJSGA Amateur Champions, won the tournament by posting a six-under par in the rain-shortened, 45-hole tournament. The championship marked the third time Devereux achieved All-MAAC honors, while also earning Devereux automatic placement into the NCAA Regional Championships. The field will be drawn during the NCAA Selection Show on May 5 at 2 p.m. on The Golf Channel. (Click for more)

● Four New Jerseyans competed in the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship in Carrollton, Texas. Ami Gianchandani (Watchung) and Yale teammate Kaitlyn Lee were one of three stroke play medalists at six-under-par, before falling in the first round of match play on Monday. The N.J. duo of Angelina Kim (Tenafly) and Claire Lu (Edison) finished the two-round stroke play at 14-over par, while Noelle Maertz (Clark) and New York resident Alexis Hios finished stroke play at eight-over-par. ● The NJPGA Assistants Spring Championship took place Monday (4/26) at Rockaway River Country Club in Denville. North Arlington’s Mike Sargenti (Knickerbocker) won the individual event, compiling five birdies en route to a three-over-par 75. Garrett Carpenter (Canoe Brook) and Danny Harcourt (Fiddler’s Elbow) finished in a tie for second at 4-over par. Five golfers tied for first in the skins event. Tommi Avant (Fiddler’s Elbow), Louis Kelly (Metedeconk), Daniel Pintauro (Echo Lake), Brian Varsey (Essex Fells), and Robert Fenton (Bedens Brook) each won a single skin. (Click for more)

● The 42nd Annual Dennis Keelty Memorial Golf Classic is being held at Plainfield Country Club in Edison on Monday, June 21. Golfers will play their own ball for the full 18 while enjoying lunch, drinks, prizes, and dinner. Participation is limited to 120 golfers. The event supports the Hemophilia Association of New Jersey, which assists persons with hemophilia and their families. Celebrating its 50th year, the HANJ’s mission is to improve the quality of life for those with a bleeding disorder by providing access to highly qualified medical treaters and successfully proven medical regimens. ● The PGA Professional Championship concludes today at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie. Forsgate's Frank Esposito (t-28) and Hollywood's Danny Lewis (t-46) have qualified for Wednesday's final round. You can track their by progress by clicking here.
