“I really just tried to absorb every shot I was about to hit,” reflected Prokop. “I was trying to keep things simple, play the right shots and really get a good sense of feel the entire day. It wound up working out really well.”

He opened his round with a bogey but bounced back by going 6-under the rest of the way. His round was highlighted by a hole out on No. 16 to notch an eagle. Hosted by White Beeches, Prokop is quite familiar with the course.

“I knew what spots I could attack, what spots I couldn't. That definitely helps out big time just getting overall comfort,” said Prokop.  “I'm just trying to be as comfortable as I can out here. There were a couple of the members watching, so that always adds a little pressure, but I was definitely very comfortable out there today for sure.”

The low 14 players (+ ties) have advanced to the championship, which will be contested at The Ridge at Back Brook from July 25-27.

The next qualifier for the Open is set for Thursday, June 23 at Laurel Creek Country Club. Pairings and starting times can be found here.
