Wmga Offers Opportunities For Girls In Golf

The Women's Metropolitan Golf Association is offering two opportunities for young women involved in the game of golf. The application deadline for both opportunities is Friday, April 29, 2016.

The WMGA has announced their Junior Girls’ Fellowship Program, which affords recipients all the playing privileges and responsibilities of a regular WMGA junior member. The recipient would be able to join the association for a one-year period with the opportunity to receive the honor again. The Association conducts about 30 competitions each year, providing WMGA members with one of the largest and most varied playing schedules in the Met area. The schedule includes individual, partner, family, and team tournaments.

To be eligible a girl must meet the following criteria:
-She must be between 12-18 years of age (must not have reached her 19th birthday by 1/1/2016 and not started college).
-She must have a handicap index of 14.0 or less.
-She or her parents may not be a member of one of our member clubs.
-She must reside in the WMGA district (60 miles from Columbus Circle including all of Long Island).

The WMGA Foundation's has also released its scholarship application. The Foundation's mission is to provide scholarships to deserving young women attending an institution of higher learning who have an interest in golf or golfing activities. Scholarships are awarded annually on the basis of integrity, character, leadership, academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, civic or volunteer programs, and financial need without regard to race, religious belief or national origin.
